Kimberly M. Chai
Artist / Printmaker / Freelance Textile Designer
I am a Hawaii born artist/printmaker/freelance textile
designer who has been exhibiting in the U.S. and abroad
since 1989. I have a BFA in Printmaking from Rutgers
University, New Brunswick, New Jersey and an MFA in
Printmaking from Washington University in St. Louis,
Missouri. My work includes reductive multi-plate
linoleum and woodblock prints, lithographs and etchings
of “water garden” imagery, artist’s books, and textile
designs for aloha shirts.
In 2005 I participated in a workshop taught by textile designer Emma Howard and was discovered by Dale Hope. My first textile design "Surf!" was completed for Patagonia under Dale's direction. It was printed from one piece of linoleum which is carved away after a specific color is printed.
